VILLAGERS ROCK LARNE AT LAKEVIEW
It was a night to remember for Loughgall as they continued their good start to the season with victory over champions Larne at Lakeview Park.
The Villagers were presented with an early opportunity to take the lead. Larne keeper Rohan Ferguson was adjudged to have brought down Caolan McAleer inside the area but he redeemed himself by saving Mark Patton's subsequent spot-kick.
Larne might have broken the deadlock just before the half-hour mark when Joe Thomson cut the ball back for the incoming Dylan Sloan to test Berraat Turker with a half volley.
And Sloan came close again a short time later, but his first time effort from Paul O'Neill's cross was again kept out by Turker.
After the break Benjamin Magee got away from Craig Farquhar to get a shot on goal but Ferguson did well to block the effort with his foot.
At the other end Kieran Lloyd cross from the right for Lee Bonis to send a powerful header goalbound but Turker brilliantly hurled himself across his goal to turn the effort to safety.
Larne were reduced to ten men with just under 20 minutes remaining after Ferguson was dismissed for handling outside the area after Jay Boyd had been played clear of the defence.
The Villagers almost made their extra man count straightaway courtesy of a Mark Patton free-kick from around 25 yards that went over the wall only to clip the top of the crossbar.
But, with only a minute of normal time remaining, Loughgall did get their winner after Magee collected the ball on the right and evaded a number of chances before lifting a shot over replacement keeper Aidan Dowling.
