CLINICAL GLENS GET PAST SKY BLUES
A goal at the beginning and end of the game steered Glentoran towards victory over Ballymena United at The Showgrounds.
The visitors moved in front after just seven minutes. A threatening ball into the box was touched into the path of Junior Uzokwe who made no mistake in knocking the ball home from close range for his first goal of the season.
Glentoran dominated throughout the first half, and might have doubled their advantage just after the half-hour mark when Jay Donnelly rose to meet Shay McCartan's corner only to head just wide of the right post.
Then, a few minutes from the break, Donnelly teed up Marcus Kane only for the Glentoran skipper to fire off target.
McCartan looked to extend Glentoran's lead early in the second half but his 25-yard strike curled just wide of the left upright.
Ballymena's cause wasn't helped with around 20 minutes remaining when they were reduced to ten men following Sean Graham's dismissal for pulling Donnelly down, his second caution of the game.
Warren Feeney's then side duly made sure of the points deep into stoppage time after Niall McGinn laid off a superb pass for Donnelly to tap home at the back post.
