BLUES MAKE IT TWO ON THE BOUNCE
Linfield maintained their perfect start to the league campaign with an entertaining defeat of Glenavon at Windsor Park.
The Blues might have gone in front with just over ten minutes on the clock when Jack Scott's header was cleared off the line by Calum Birney but, with just over a quarter-of-an-hour gone, they did seize the advantage after Chris McKee finished from close range following great work down the left from Scott and Matthew Clarke.
Glenavon responded almost immediately, however, and duly levelled thanks to a superb Stephen Teggart right-foot curling effort from the edge of the area that left Chris Johns rooted to the spot.
Linfield almost regained the lead after Kirk Millar sent an effort past keeper Rory Brown only for the ball to come back off the right post.
David Healy's side did move back in front on 52 minutes courtesy of a superb run down the right from Joel Cooper, before he finished well into the top left corner.
Remarkably, the visitors almost levelled straightaway again when Teggart's cross from the right clipped the top of the crossbar.
Two goals in quick succession just after the hour put Linfield firmly in control.
On 61 minutes Tiernan Mulvenna conceded a spot-kick following a challenge on Kyle McClean. Chris Shields stepped up to take, but was denied by Brown only for the Linfield man to knock home the rebound.
Then, four minutes after that, another penalty was awarded after Brown had upended McKee with Shields subsequently making no mistake this time.
Glenavon bagged their second of the night on 74 minutes after Peter Campbell crossed from the right for Calum Birney to head home but there ultimately proved to be no way back for Gary Hamilton's men.
