DONNELLY POPS UP WITH LATE, LATE WINNER
Jay Donnelly hit a late, late stoppage time winner as Glentoran got the season off to a successful start away to Glenavon.
A first half of few chances, Rhys Marshall saw an early opportunity blocked and pushed out by keeper Rory Brown only as far as Cameron Palmer but his effort was also blocked.
The visitors created another opening around the quarter-of-an-hour mark through Niall McGinn, but this was cleared off the line by Glenavon skipper Danny Wallace.
The opening exchanges of the second half saw both sides threaten with Donnelly seeing an attempt blocked - again by Wallace - while Aaron Prendergast was denied by Aaron McCarey at the other end.
Glentoran came closest to find a way through later in the half after McGinn played Junior Uzokwe in down the left but his subsequent effort came back off an upright.
But the deadlock was finally broken a remarkable nine minutes into added time when Donnelly nipped in to stab home a Shay McCartan cross from the right.
