GLENAVON SECURE POTENTIAL PLAY-OFF SPOT
Glenavon made sure of seventh spot and a potential European play-off place with victory over Newry City at The Showgrounds.
Scoreless at the break, Newry's Olajuwon Adeyemo came closest to find a way through after a quarter-of-an-hour with a low shot from the edge of the box that came back off an upright.
However, the deadlock was broken just after the hour with what proved to be the only goal of the game when a cross into the area was only partially cleared as far as Glenavon's Jack Malone who had time to control and fire a low shot past Steven Maguire.
Glenavon almost added a second late in the game when the ball fell for Jamie Doran only for his effort to be deflected over.
