CUSHLEY BRACE SINKS SWIFTS
David Cushley grabbed both goals as Carrick Rangers defeated Dungannon Swifts at the Loughview Leisure Arena.
Rangers started brightly, and might have gone in front when a Cameron Stewart header looked destined for the back of the net only for Michael Ruddy to make a goalline clearance.
However, Stuart King's side did take the lead on 21 minutes when Cushley made no mistake from the spot, firing past Declan Dunne into the right corner.
The Swifts attempted to get back on level terms before the break with Cahal McGinty seeing an effort saved by Ross Glendinning ... with the Carrick keeper later thwarting Padraig Lynch before Mayowa Animasahun sent a header wide.
Ethan McGee then had a go early in the second half but, again, Glendinning dealt with the danger.
That was how it stayed until the closing quarter-of-an-hour when Cushley doubled his tally to effectively settle the game with a strike from distance that Dunne spilled into the net.
Dungannon might have halved the deficit through a James Knowles free-kick off the crossbar but, moments after that, they were reduced to ten men when Ruddy received his second caution of the evening following a foul on Alex Gawne.
