GLENAVON RETURN TO WINNING WAYS
Glenavon picked up a first league win in nine outings with a narrow defeat of Newry City at The Showgrounds.
Gary Hamilton's side enjoyed a few chances in the first half with Jack Malone failing to direct an early effort on target while Michael O'Connor sent a free-kick the wrong side of the post.
The visitors missed another chance through Jamie Doran who could only drag a 12-yard shot wide but, on 39 minutes, he went one better with what proved to be the only goal of the game after sending over a ball that home keeper Niall Brady allowed to slip out of his grasp and over the line.
Brady atoned for his earlier mistake after the break to deny Matthew Fitzpatrick with his foot while, with around an hour on the clock, Newry came close to levelling through John McGovern but Glenavon keeper Rory Brown did well to turn the ball away for a corner.
However Glenavon looked the more likely to find the net again with Isaac Baird volleying over the top while Brady again saved with his foot to, this time, deal with a Malone effort.
