BATTLE OF THE GLENS ENDS SCORELESS
Glentoran's title aspirations were dealt a huge blow following a scoreless draw with Glenavon at the BetMcLean Oval.
Rodney McAree's side dominated for large periods of the first half and can perhaps count themselves unlucky not to have found the net.
They might have moved in front after a few minutes only to be thwarted by a fantastic Rory Brown save to keep out a Terry Devlin header.
Brown again denied Devlin not long after that, this time from a right-sided Rhys Marshall cross while a further chance came via Hrvoje Plum who was just off target with an acrobatic effort.
Glenavon did start to create openings of their own early in the second half, the best of which was a Matthew Fitzpatrick shot parried by Aaron McCarey.
At the other end Conor McMenamin darted through the midfield only to send a strong effort just over the crossbar.
Glenavon were then reduced to ten men with around a quarter-of-an-hour to go following Jordan Stewart's dismissal for an off the ball push on Bobby Burns.
The home side failed to make their numerical advantage count, although they did come agonisingly close when McMenamin saw his deflected effort cleared off the line by Conor Kerr - followed by a Danny Purkis header that fell just the wrong side of the post.
