SWIFTS PICK UP BIG THREE POINTS
Dungannon Swifts picked up a crucial three points with victory over Newry City at The Showgrounds.
The win moves the Swifts level on points with City and a massive 14 clear of bottom of the table Portadown, albeit having played two games more.
Newry dominated the early stages of the game, coming close to breaking the deadlock when James Teelan nodded on a Philip Donnelly free-kick but Declan Dunne was equal to the threat.
Teelan crafted a couple of other efforts later in the first half, but it fell to the visitors to open the scoring on 42 minutes through Marc Walsh's finish from inside the box.
Dungannon then doubled their advantage just before the hour. Walsh was brought down inside the box and, from the resultant spot-kick, James Knowles stepped up to fire into the top corner.
And the visitors almost extended their lead in the closing stages only for Joe McCready to ping an effort off an upright from close range.
