MILLAR DOUBLE HELPS FIRE LARNE BACK TO THE TOP
Larne moved back to the top of the Danske Bank Premiership with a three-goal Friday night defeat of Glenavon at Inver Park.
The visitors crafted the first effort of note when the ball found Calum Birney at the back post but he failed to keep his header on target.
However, it only took Larne until the 14th minute to break the deadlock when Leroy Millar received a touch from Andy Ryan to race clear of the defence and calmly slot past keeper Rory Brown.
Ryan might have added a second soon after with a low, hard strike at the near post but Brown did well to deal with the threat.
At the other end Matthew Fitzpatrick sent an effort just wide before Peter Campbell's curling attempt suffered a similar fate.
Larne doubled their lead four minutes from the break with Millar's second of the evening, a driven finish beyond Brown after Lee Bonis had found him with a cushioned pass.
Glenavon started brightly after the break, coming close through Issac Baird who twisted and turned before testing Rohan Ferguson, followed by a Conor Kerr cross which clipped off the crossbar.
For Larne the ball fell loose from a Bonis effort only as far as Ryan who could only fire straight at the keeper.
But the game was wrapped up as a contest with around a quarter-of-an-hour remaining after Tomas Cosgrove delivered a through ball for Bonis to run on to and fire across Brown in off the post.
