DERBY DOUBLE FOR FITZPATRICK
Matthew Fitzpatrick bagged both goals as Glenavon got the better of near neighbours Portadown on Boxing Day.
Although scoreless at the break, the game wasn't without chances as the home side dominated for large parts.
Danny Wallace and Fitzpatrick had chances while Peter Campbell proved to be a constant threat. For the Ports Alberto Balde and Jordan Jenkins came close but neither defence was breached.
That all changed just five minutes into the second half after Fitzpatrick opened the scoring after exchanging a move with Eoin Bradley before firing into the top corner from close range.
Fitzpatrick was denied a second later in the half by keeper Jethren Barr while Jenkins tested Rory Brown at the other end.
Portadown then levelled on 68 minutes after Jenkins sent over a corner that was bundled home by Barney McKeown.
But what proved to be the winner came eight minutes after that when Fitzpatrick doubled up with a cool finish from inside the box after being picked out by Campbell.
