LARNE REDISCOVER WINNING TOUCH
League leaders Larne returned to winning ways with a narrow victory over Glenavon at Mourneview Park.
The sides traded half chances during the opening exchanges with Conor McCloskey testing Rohan Ferguson while, at the other end, Rory Brown was equal to Ben Doherty's low effort at the end of a run.
However, the first half proved to be one of few other opportunities in front of goal but that changed not long after the interval when Doherty got past Sean Ward only to fire straight at Brown.
Isaac Baird then had a chance for the home side when, some 25 yards from goal, he forced Ferguson into a diving save to push the ball behind for a corner.
It looked like the deadlock had been broken with 12 minutes remaining when Paul O'Neill found the net, but his 'goal' was subsequently ruled out offside.
But what proved to be Larne's winner eventually arrived on 80 minutes when the unfortunate Ward directed the ball into his own net whilst attempting to deal with a Daniel Kearns corner.
And they might have doubled their lead late in the game after O'Neill found Leroy Millar in the box, but he failed to keep his close range from going over.
