CURRAN AND GORMLEY ON TARGET FOR THE REDS
Cliftonville closed the gap at the top of the table to two points with victory over Newry City at Solitude.
Newry might have grabbed the early advantage when Daniel Hughes rounded keeper Nathan Gartside only to send his effort across the face of goal.
Thomas Lockhart then came close a little later with a curling free-kick just wide of the target.
However it fell to the home side to open the scoring when, on 21 minutes, Ryan Curran connected with a well delivered Joe Gormley ball to tap home from close range.
The Reds could have doubled their advantage when Luke Turner saw an effort cleared off the line before Curran came close with a strike just wide of the post, with Gormley then being denied by a great stop from Steven Maguire.
After the break Ronan Hale sent the ball into the side netting with Ryan McGivern coming close for Newry with a 30-yard effort that curled just wide.
Curran was then later thwarted by Maguire but Cliftonville did make sure of the points with just a couple of minutes remaining when Sean Moore laid the ball off for Gormley - on his birthday - to tap home Cliftonville's second.
