SECOND HALF GOALS EARN CARRICK THE POINTS
Two second half goals saw Carrick Rangers defeat bottom of the table Portadown at the Loughview Leisure Arena.
Scoreless at the break, the visitors crafted the first effort of note with just over a quarter-of-an-hour on the clck after Joshua Archer tested keeper Ross Glendinning with a volley after the ball dropped for him outside the area.
For Carrick Ben Tilney had a go with a deflected effort off a defender after a run down the left while, towards half-time, he perhaps came closest with a rasping effort which clipped the outside of the post.
The Ports almost moved in front early in the second half but Paddy McNally's downward header from Reece Jordan's corner was stopped on the line by Glendinning.
But the deadlock was broken in Carrick's favour on the hour through Lloyd Anderson who turned the ball home from close range after an Andy Mitchell corner had been knocked on.
Then, with just over ten minutes to go, Cameron Stewart made it 2-0 to seal the points with a back post header from another Mitchell delivery.
