McMENAMIN FINISH ENOUGH FOR GLENS
A Conor McMenamin goal early in the game was enough for Glentoran to defeat Newry City at The Showgrounds.
The Northern Ireland international bagged what proved to be the only goal of the game on 13 minutes after getting past defender Noel Healy to finish low past Steven Maguire at the near post.
Bobby Burns might have added a second a few minutes later but couldn't beat Maguire one-on-one while, at the other end, Donal Rocks saw an effort blocked by Patrick McClean.
Glentoran were presented with an opportunity to double their lead early in the second half but Maguire did well to keep out a Jay Donnelly penalty before, just before the hour, Ryan McGivern deflected a Shay McCartan cross onto the crossbar.
Newry might have snatched an equaliser late in the game after Aaron McCarey got down to deny Daniel Hughes while McClean produced a timely intervention to prevent Declan Carville on the follow up.
