CARRICK RECOVER TO KICK OFF SEASON WITH WIN
Carrick Rangers fought back from going a goal down to kick off the new season with victory over newly promoted Newry City.
The visitors got off to a great start when, after 16 minutes, Thomas Lockhart fired them in front with an early contender for goal of the season with a firmly struck 30-yard volley which whistled past Ross Glendinning into the top corner.
Stuart King's side levelled on 37 minutes through the experienced Curtis Allen who acrobatically fired home after getting on the end of Steven Gordon's flicked header.
That was how it stayed until, with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining, Gordon bagged what proved to be the winner with a back post header from Andy Mitchell's free-kick.
Newry ended the game with ten men following Donal Rocks' dismissal for an off the ball incident.
