SWIFTS KEEP RUN GOING
Dungannon Swifts stretched their recent winning streak to four games in all competitions with a convincing victory over Portadown at Stangmore Park.
Dean Shiels' side needed just eight minutes to seize the advantage. A Ryan Mayse corner was initially saved by keeper Jethren Barr but the ball fell for Joe McCready who saw his effort blocked before Cahal McGinty nodded home at the third attempt.
The Ports almost levelled straightaway but Adam Salley could only fire over at the near post.
Unfortunately chances proved to be a rare commodity for the remainder of the first half, apart from a long range Darragh McBrien effort which sailed over the top.
Dungannon doubled their lead four minutes after the break when McBrien went one better with a finish into the bottom corner after skipper Oisin Smyth had picked him out.
Portadown had a chance to pull one back when Stephen Teggart sent over a cross but Salley failed to hit the target again.
The home side made sure of the points with three minutes remaining after substitute beat Howard Beverland to the ball and duly directed his finish beyond Barr into the bottom corner.
Portadown did bag a stoppage consolation, however, when Oisin Conaty sent a strong effort into the top corner from the edge of the box.
