CURRAN BAGS THE WINNER FOR LEADERS CLIFTONVILLE
League leaders Cliftonville stretched their unbeaten start to the campaign to six games after a one-goal win over Warrenpoint Town at Solitude.
A fairly quiet start to proceedings produced little activity in front of goal. Indeed it took until just after the half-hour mark for the first real effort of note when Reds skipper Chris Curran took a run to the edge of the area only to fail to trouble keeper Conor Mitchell with a weak shot.
A Joe Gormley attempt late in the half that flew the wrong side of the upright followed by a Levi Ives pushed behind for a corner were the only other highlights going into the break.
The Reds might have gone in front early in the second half through Kris Lowe's overhead kick but Mitchell did well to produce a fingertip save.
Further chances followed with Chris Gallagher having a go from distance, while 'Point also started to enjoy rare moments of pressure.
Warrenpoint defender Steven Ball almost turned the ball into his own net with a back header whilst attempting to deal with a long ball forward but Mitchell managed to keep the ball from crossing the line.
However, what proved to the winner for Cliftonville arrived with just over a quarter-of-an-hour remaining when Ryan Curran rose highest in the box to power a header past Mitchell from a corner.
