KELLY BAGS FIRST WIN FOR KING
A Daniel Kelly strike early in the game was enough for Carrick Rangers to get the better of Warrenpoint Town at the Loughshore Hotel Arena.
Stuart King's side thought they had moved in front after just 12 minutes when Stewart Nixon and Lloyd Anderson combined for the latter to finish into the bottom corner but the 'goal' was ruled out offside.
But the home faithful only had to wait a further five minutes to celebrate what proved to be the only goal of the game, a superb Kelly overhead kick effort which took a slight deflection off Colm Deasy and past keeper Conor Mitchell.
It was almost 2-0 to Carrick just before the break but Emmett McGuckin was unlucky to see his 20-yard drive well tipped over by Mitchell just as it looked like it was going to dip over the 'Point custodian.
The second half was a largely uninspiring affair although there was a brief flurry of activity midway through when Nixon saw an effort stopped by Mitchell's legs while an Alex Gawne long range attempt was also well kept out.
