STOPPAGE TIME WINNER AMID DRAMATIC SHOWGROUNDS FINISH
Coleraine squeezed to victory over Warrenpoint Town following a dramatic closing to the game at The Showgrounds.
The opening exchanges saw the sides trade chances with Stephen Lowry and Ian Parkhill sending efforts over at one end while a Fra McCaffrey ball met a similar fate at the other.
The deadlock was broken just before the half-hour mark when, from a quickly taken Lowry free-kick, Evan Tweed laid the ball off for Ben Doherty to find the bottom corner with a great finish from inside the box.
It might have been 2-0 early in the second half when Lowry had a header cleared off the line by Ryan Swan, while Jamie Glackin pulled an effort wide and Doherty fired straight at Gabriel Sava when one-on-one.
For 'Point Danny Wallace saw a glancing header well saved by Gareth Deane before Dermot McVeigh sent a later shot wide.
Warrenpoint's task was made more difficult on 81 minutes when keeper Sava was dismissed following an off the ball incident with Stewart Nixon.
Then, not long after that, Gavin Peers became the second 'Point player to be shown a red card by referee Ross Dunlop. Peers had been off injured at the time of the Sava incident, and had duly been substituted by back-up keeper Andy Coleman.
However, Peers appeared not to be aware of this and came back onto the pitch after his injury had been treated and, having previously been booked, received his second caution of the game.
But despite the not unexpected controversy surrounding this incident and being a man down Warrenpoint remarkably levelled on 89 minutes through Stuart Hutchinson after the home defence had failed to clear a free-kick.
It appeared the visitors had salvaged a point but, two minutes into stoppage time, Nixon popped up to bag Coleraine's dramatic winner after latching onto a ball over the top to finish low underneath Coleman.
