FIRST HALF GOAL BLITZ FIRES GLENS TO VICTORY
Glentoran picked up their first league win of the season with victory over Dungannon Swifts at The Oval thanks largely to a sparkling first half showing.
Paul O'Neill opened the scoring on 17 minutes with a shot across goal from the back post after Dale Gorman found him with a pass from the edge of the box.
Dungannon levelled almost immediately, however, when Rhyss Campbell did well to chest the ball down from Shane McGinty before finding the net in off an upright.
And the Swifts were unlucky not to edge into the lead themselves soon after but Campbell was just centimetres away from turning home Kris Lowe's cross.
Robbie McDaid regained the advantage for the Glens just before the half-hour mark with a drive into the bottom left corner from Caolan Marron's cross.
Then, on 33 minutes, Patrick McClean added a third after beating Sam Johnston to a Gorman free-kick and heading into the net.
The scoring continued not long after that. Jay Donnelly claimed his first of the afternoon with a tap in after Marcus Kane and Ciaran O'Connor had combined to find him at the back post.
Unsurprisingly, the second half was much quieter by comparison but Donnelly did double his tally with nine minutes to go with a rifled left-foot effort into the top corner from McClean's pass.
