MAGUIRE, CURRAN AND GORMLEY ON TARGET FOR REDS
Goals from Thomas Maguire, Ryan Curran and Joe Gormley helped Cliftonville sweep to a three-goal victory over Warrenpoint Town at Solitude.
Despite the eventual outcome, Warrenpoint started the better and almost seized the advantage on four minutes when Matthew Knox's low free-kick from inside the box forced Richard Brush to save with his legs.
But it only took the Reds ten minutes to open the scoring when Maguire was presented with a six-yard finish after the referee played on when Ryan Curran had found Michael McCrudden who was subsequently taken down by Gabriel Sava.
Warrenpoint fought hard to get back on level terms with Ryan Swan smashing an effort into the side netting soon after, while only Ryan O'Reilly's clearance saved the day when Francis McCaffrey and Swan rushed in to connect with a Steven Ball delivery.
Then, later in the half both McCaffrey and Swan had further chances but a combination of poor finishing and decent defending kept them at bay.
'Point were to pay for those missed opportunities early in the second half.
On 48 minutes Ryan Curran made it 2-0 when he latched onto a long ball forward to calmly go past Mark Carson and beat Sava inside the near post.
And five minutes after that Gormley knocked home number three with a 16-yard half volley high into the top corner after the ball fell for him from a Maguire corner.
Curran could have doubled his tally with around a quarter-of-an-hour to go only to strike the inside of the post with a low sweeping effort while, for 'Point, substitute Colm Carney dipped a long range effort just over a few minutes later.
