McDAID QUICK FIRE DOUBLE SINKS SKY BLUES
Two David McDaid goals in as many minutes ensured Larne secured victory over Ballymena United at Inver Park to maintain their 100% start to the new season.
What was all the more remarkable about McDaid's double was that they came just moments he had come on as a substitute for Ronan Hale with just over a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.
Larne had enjoyed the majority of scoring opportunities up until that point, coming close early on when Josh Robinson saw a powerful header pushed onto the bar by Ross Glendinning.
Glendinning rescued Ballymena again midway through the first half to keep out Albert Watson's downward header while, in the last few minutes before the break, he denied Hale from Martin Donnelly's ball over the top.
Lee Lynch did find the net for Larne early in the second half but this was ruled out offside while, moments later at the other end, Shay McCartan's effort was cleared off the line after he had went past Conor Devlin.
Donnelly and Randall had further chances for Tiernan Lynch's side before McDaid came on to take control of proceedings.
He opened the scoring on 74 minutes after cutting in front left to meet a Lynch ball to dispatch it beyond Glendinning.
Then, just moments after that, he made it 2-0 after finding himself through on goal with the visiting defence in his wake to calmly slot home.
