CANNING BRACE SETS BANNSIDERS UP FOR WIN
An Aaron Canning first half double helped Coleraine sweep to a comprehensive four-goal defeat of Institute in the lunchtime kick-off at the Brandywell.
James McLaughlin carved out the first effort of the game inside the opening ten minutes when he picked up on a Stewart Nixon square ball only to see keeper Rory Brown turn away his shot.
Other than that it was a fairly quiet encounter until, on 27 minutes, Canning opened the scoring when he powered a header into the bottom corner after connecting with a Jamie Glackin free-kick.
Dean Curry might have levelled for 'Stute later in the first half but he could only glance the ball wide after Cormac Burke had delivered a free-kick.
The Bannsiders doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time with Canning's second of the game, a superbly executed half-volley into the top corner from Nixon's corner.
And the visitors extended their advantage just before the hour through skipper Stephen O'Donnell's headed finish following a deflected Nixon cross.
Then, right at the end, Josh Carson completed the scoring with a close range finish at the far post after Nixon had sent the ball over from the left.
