SWIFTS SEND 'STUTE TO THE BOTTOM
Two goals midway through the second half ensured victory for Dungannon Swifts over Institute at Stangmore Park.
The Swifts almost moved in front inside the opening five minutes when a mistake by Ahu Obhakhan presented an opportunity for Caolan McAleer but his 25-yard drive drifted just wide.
Experienced Swifts midfielder Terry Fitzpatrick then had a chance with just over 20 minutes on the clock only to fire straight at keeper Rory Brown after Rhyss Campbell had cut the ball back.
Michael Carvill did have the ball in the net for Dungannon just around the half-hour mark but his finished was chalked off after he was adjudged to have impeded Dean Curry in the build up.
Institute looked brighter after the break, with Joe McCready forcing an awkward save from keeper Conner Byrne while, a little later, Obhakhan was a whisker away after Curry had nodded a Cormac Burke corner across the face of goal.
But the deadlock was broken in Dungannon's favour on the hour when McAleer sent over a corner which Dylan King duly despatched beyond Brown with a thumping corner.
Then, on 73 minutes, Douglas Wilson made it 2-0 with a successfully converted spot-kick awarded after McAleer had been brought down by Conor Tourish inside the area.
Despite their best efforts Institute's only real effort after that was a Gareth Brown shot which he dragged just wide of the target.
