FIRST HALF GOALS SEND GLENS BACK TO THE TOP
Glentoran are back on top of the Danske Bank Premiership following a two-goal defeat of Institute at the Brandywell.
After a quiet opening it was Institute that came closest to breaking the deadlock when Gareth Brown held off Caolan Marron to find Aidan McCauley but his effort was snuffed out by keeper Marijan Antolovic.
But moments later Glentoran were in front. Elvio van Overbeek sent over a cross which Navid Nasseri collected before cutting onto his right foot and sending a powerful finish past Rory Brown.
That was how it stayed until the 42nd minute when new signing Keith Cowan marked his debut with a goal, a tap into the unguarded net after Hrvoje Plum's free-kick was only only parried by keeper Brown into his path.
Looking to put the game to bed, Robbie McDaid and Nasseri had chances early in the second half but both failed to find the target.
'Stute substitute Ahu Obhakhan might have pulled one back just before the hour but miskicked at the crucial moments after Alex Pomeroy had found him with a ball across the box.
Marcus Kane had one late chance for the Glens, only to find the side netting from a Plum free-kick which Brown made a save from a McDaid header.
