BLUES TOO STRONG FOR 'STUTE AT WINDSOR
Linfield carved out an untroubled three-goal victory over Institute at Windsor Park to claim their first win of the festive season.
Bastien Hery created the first effort of note with a low 30-yard drive which Rory Brown did well to parry while, for 'Stute, Alex Pomeroy saw a shot blocked.
Shayne Lavery then saw a chance saved by Brown before, on the half-hour, Andrew Waterworth opened the scoring from the spot when he beat Brown to the left after Dean Curry had upended Joel Cooper.
Then, three minutes after that, Mark Haughey doubled Linfield's lead with a close range volley after Waterworth had flicked the ball on from the back post.
Linfield continued to press after the break with Lavery failing to make the most of a couple of opportunities while Haughey almost doubled his tally only to glance the ball onto an upright.
However Lavery did get his name on the scoresheet on 71 minutes. The impressive Cooper got past a couple of defenders before laying the ball off for Jordan Stewart but when his shot was blocked Lavery was on hand to tuck away the rebound from three yards.
