BIG WIN FOR 'POINT AT THE BRANDYWELL
Warrenpoint Town earned a hugely significant victory over Institute in the battle at the Brandywell between the sides at the foot of the table.
Defeat would have club 'Point adrift but they managed to craft a narrow victory to earn their first points on the road this season.
The crucial moment came on 64 minutes when, somewhat against the run of play and with a rare shot on goal, substitute Eamon Scannell met a low cross from Alan O'Sullivan to stab home the match winner from eight yards.
Brendan McLaughlin had the ball in the back of the net for 'Stute two minutes later after connecting with Aidan McCauley's cross but it was ruled out offside.
McLaughlin also had a couple of opportunities in the first half which he failed to convert. Early on he was denied by a superb stretching save from 'Point keeper Mark Byrne before heading over with around half-an-hour gone.
Joe McCready was thwarted by Byrne a short time after that while, after the break, the same player blazed over when well placed while Scannell had a chance at the other end before eventually going one better with what proved to be the only goal of the game.
