EARLY GOALS SET GLENAVON ON COURSE FOR ALL THREE POINTS

Two goals inside the first 15 minutes set Glenavon up to claim a comfortable victory over Institute at Mourneview Park.

The game got off to a bright start with both sides having chances during the opening exchanges.

Institute striker Joe McCready might have opened the scoring as early as the second minute when he buest into the area only to drag his shot narrowly wide of the far post while, not long after that at the other end, Kyle Beggs crossed for Rhys Marshall but he failed to test keeper Rory Brown.

Glenavon moved in front on six minutes when Stephen Murray got past a defender before sending a right-foot shot past Brown into the far corner.

Then, with just shy of quarter-of-an-hour on the clock, Robert Garrett doubled Glenavon's lead with a 25-yard drive in off the crossbar after Beggs had done well to keep the ball alive on the right.

Murray further extended Glenavon's advantage on 35 minutes with his second of the night, following up on the rebound after Brown had superbly kept out his initial effort.

And it was almost four just before the break when Murray combined in a one-two with Aaron Harmon but the latter was unlucky when his right foot shot struck the near post.

The chances continued after the break with Andy Mitchell and Beggs both denied by Brown while, on the hour, the 'Stute keeper did well to push a sliced Dean Curry attempted clearance round his own post.

'Stute did rally a little later in the game with Shane McNamee clipping the crossbar with a powerful 20-yard drive before a consolation goal arrived eight minutes from the end when Aaron McGurk pulled the ball back for Jamie McIntyre to sweep past Johnny Tuffey.
