PLUM AND MCCLEAN HIT THE TARGET FOR GLENS
Hrvoje Plum and Patrick McClean found the net as Glentoran defeated Warrenpoint Town at The Oval.
Plum fired the Glens in front as early as the fifth minute with a stunning 25-yard free-kick before, not long after, Elvio van Overbeek almost made it 2-0 with an effort just past the post swiftly followed by another shot just inside the area which was kept out by keeper Evan Moran.
The chances continued with van Overbeek again threatening with a ball over the top while Moran was called into action again to deny Paul O'Neill from ten yards.
Then, not long after the half-hour mark, van Overbeek teed up Connor Pepper but his effort came back off the inside of the post before being cleared and, before the break, John Herron found O'Neill but his effort finished up on the roof of the net.
Warrenpoint looked a better proposition in the second half, testing Marijan Antolović early on through Ciaran O'Connor's curling attempt with James Prendergast then having a free header at the back post go over.
And 'Point did indeed level when, on 68 minutes, Alan O'Sullivan got in between Steven Gordon and McClean to slide the ball into the net from Emmett Bennett's delivery.
However, just as it looked like Stephen McDonnell's side were about to earn their first point of the season up popped McClean in the 90th minute to nod the ball over the line despite Moran getting a hand to it.
