EARLY GOAL SETS GLENAVON ON WAY TO FIRST WIN
Two goals inside the opening half-an-hour set Glenavon well on their way to victory over Warrenpoint Town at Mourneview Park.
Gary Hamilton's side moved in front on 11 minutes when James Singleton was fouled at the end of a run into the box by Gavin Smith with Sammy Clingan stepping up to make no mistake with the subsequent spot-kick.
Clingan came close to adding a second just a couple of minutes later with a free-kick out on the left but the ball skimmed the top of the crossbar.
However, it was 2-0 just before the half-hour mark after Jordan Jenkins picked up the loose ball from a Singleton pass to play Andrew Mitchell through to beat Berraat Turker low into the far corner.
The 'Point keeper was called into action again before the break when he pushed a Singleton shot onto an upright while, a little later, he comfortably dealt with a Mitchell header.
Warrenpoint started brightly after the interval with Mark Griffin testing Jonny Tuffey following some neat control inside the area.
At the other end Jack O'Mahony got past Emmet Bennett but Turker dealt with the danger while, for the visitors, Griffin again caused problems before the home defence tidied things up.
But Glenavon comfortably held onto their two-goal cushion to record their first win of the campaign.
