NEWINGTON HIT SIX TO CLINCH TITLE
Newington swept to a thumping defeat of third placed Armagh City at Solitude and with it claimed the Lough 41 Premier Intermediate League title.
Paul Hamilton's side needed just two minutes to open the scoring when Aodhfionn Casey found the net with a header from Robert McVarnock's long ball to the edge of the six yard box.
Darren Stuart doubled up five minutes after that with a touch past keeper Conner Byrne from Patrick Downey's lay-off.
Tiarnan McNicholl made it 3-0 midway through the first half after outsprinting Padraig Judge to slot home from just inside the area, before Downey beat the offside trap to add a fourth just after the half-hour mark ... and this was followed just two minutes after that when Gary Warwick swept home number five.
There was no further scoring until the 79th minute when City's Adam Wright made the most of a defensive error to sweep home a consolation, but the Swans restored their five goal cushion in the closing moments with a superb solo effort from McVarnock after he won possession in his own half and cut through the visiting defence to confidently beat Byrne.
