SEASIDERS BACK OUT IN FRONT
Bangor returned to the top of the Lough 41 Premier Intermediate League with a narrow defeat of morning leaders Newington at Clandeboye Park.
The Seasiders almost moved in front as early as the second minute when Isaac Fletcher got on the end of a Reece Neale cross only to send a header against the crossbar.
However, Bangor did take the lead after half-an-hour through Ben Arthurs who, despite only being on the pitch for a couple of minutes, showed his strength to hold off the attentions of the visiting defence to blast a shot past Marc Maybin.
Fletcher might have added a second late in the first half but Maybin was equal to the challenge, and the Swans keeper was called into action twice in quick succession around the hour mark to thwart both Arthurs and Dylan O’Kane.
There was a further opportunity for Bangor on 71 minutes when Fletcher’s long range effort came back off an upright, and two subsequent follow ups were cleared off the line.
Newington almost levelled with six minutes remaining, but Bangor keeper Matthew Anderson did well to save at the second attempt from Ciaran Lundy.
