BRANIFF GETS WHITES OFF TO WINNING START
Kevin Braniff scored the only goal of the game as Lisburn Distillery kicked off the new Bluefin Sport Premier Intermediate League campaign with a win over Dollingstown at Planters Park.
The Whites created the early pressure and might have taken the lead as early as the third minute when Daire Rooney produced a great save from Steven Maguire after connecting with a Michael O'Hanlon cross.
Both sides had their moments during the first half without really troubling either keeper although Rooney did come close again towards the break with a chipped effort which went just over.
Ryan Gourley created an opening for Dollingstown's Richard Thompson around the hour, followed by a flowing team move which ended up in the ball going out for a corner.
However, what proved to be the only goal of the game came on 68 minutes through veteran midfielder Braniff who delivered a cross which deceived Dollingstown keeper Maguire to go in off an upright.
Dollingstown might have levelled later in the game only for Aaron Moffett's header from a corner to strike the woodwork.
