The Whites moved in front as early as the opening minute when Nick Beta when he reacted quickly after Newington 'keeper Dean Smyth fumbled a corner.

After striking the post and then seeing the ball blocked on the line the visitors doubled their lead on 13 minutes when a corner wasn't cleared and Paul Young was on hand to capitalise.

Newington reduced the deficit before the half-hour mark when the Whites rearguard failed to clear their lines with Sean McAuley driving the ball past 'keeper Jake Nelson.

Distillery restored their two-goal advantage eight minutes into the second half after Young stayed onside to slot the ball beyond Smyth.

And he might well have grabbed his hat-trick a quarter-of-an-hour after that only to strike the crossbar.

The home side set up a grandstand finish when, on 83 minutes, Padraig Scollay knocked home the rebound after Nelson had initially saved a penalty.
