Institute picked up a potentially crucial win over HW Welders at Tillysburn Park to move to within touching distance of pole position.

The Welders paid a high price for not taking their scoring chances, particularly in the first half.

On two minutes Danny McKee got in behind the defence but saw his effort well saved by 'keeper Martin Gallagher.

And McKee was involved again a little later when he teed up David Rainey but the former Crusaders man sent his near post effort wide.

'Stute moved in front on 37 minutes. Jamie McIntyre was brought down inside the box by William Armstrong and from the resultant spot-kick Michael McCrudden made no mistake in putting the ball to the left of 'keeper Samuel Johnston.

Kevin Deery's side pushed on after the break to seal the game, and duly doubled their advantage just after the hour when Stephen Curry released McCrudden and whilst his shot on goal was parried it only went as far as Gareth Brown who duly tucked it home.
