Scott McMillan opened the scoring for the Welders with around a quarter-of-an-hour on the clock with a close range finish after connecting with a corner.

And, on the half-hour mark, Daniel McMurray made it 2-0 when he met a free-kick on the edge of the box to guide the ball past John Connolly.

It got worse for Portadown moments from the break following Niall Henderson's dismissal for an off-the-ball incident.

The Ports came storming out of the blocks early in the second half, with Adam McCallum pulling a goal back on 46 minutes with a header from Kyle Neill's corner.

Then, with an hour gone, Niall Currie's charges levelled through Kevin Amuneke after McCallum headed back another Neill corner into his path.

But, eight minutes after that, David Rainey grabbed the Welders' winner from the spot after he was adjudged to have been impeded in the area by Fra Brennan.
