A Liam McKenna goal early in the second half proved enough for Warrenpoint Town to defeat HW Welders at Milltown.

The 17-year-old central midfielder found the net on 54 minutes after getting on the end of a John McGuigan ball to direct a header beyond 'keeper Samuel Johnston.

Aaron Traynor might have opened the scoring for Matt Tipton's side midway through the first half when he rattled the crossbar with a cracking drive before the Welders defence cleared the danger.

And 'Point came close to doubling their advantage in the closing moments when Lorcan Forde, making his league debut, embarked on a great run before being brought down on the edge of the area with McGuigan narrowly firing the subsequent free-kick just over.
