COMRADES WIN BY ODD GOAL IN SEVEN

Comrades opened the scoring in the sixth minute when Gary Brown fired a lovely first-time shot from 27 yards, which was always going away from the 'keeper as it flew into the net.

The lead did not last long, as three minutes later Welders grabbed an equaliser when David Rainey finished with a shot just under the bar from six yards after getting on the end of a ball played across the box.

The pulsating start to the game continued, with Comrades re-taking the lead in the 11th minute when Mark Kelly headed in from four yards from a Samuel McIlveen corner.

The visitors were unlucky not to score in the 25th minute when Brandon Nelson's 25 yard free-kick came back off the inside of the post.

Comrades went 3-1 up in the 28th minute. Adam Gray did very well to set Stewart Nixon up for a chance from 14 yards which he finished low in off the far post.

Welders pressed in the second half and they wiped out the deficit with two goals in as many minutes.

First Jason Johnston was unlucky as the ball came back off him and into the net, after Geoff McKinty had saved a David Rainey effort. Then Ryan Deans' shot from the edge of the box crept inside the post through a crowded area.

But, in the 90th minute Comrades got a very late winner. A McIlveen free-kick from 25 yards came back off the post, but Kelly was ideally placed to knock the loose ball into the empty net.
