HW Welders moved two points clear at the top of the Playr-Fit Championship on a weekend that also produced victories for Annagh United, Institute, Ballyclare Comrades and Bangor.

The Welders hit five goals without reply past Armagh City in a storming performance at the Blanchflower Stadium.

Ewan McCoubrey kicked the scoring off with a brace in the latter stages of the first half, the opener a thunderous finish into the top corner followed by another superb strike from 20 yards.

Tiarnan O’Connor hit a stunning double of his own after the break, adding to the Welders lead on the hour before making it 4-0 on 77 minutes.

Lewis Mearns then wrapped the scoring up soon after that with a great finish under the City keeper.

Brian Healy bagged a hat-trick for Ballyclare Comrades as they inched past Ards 3-2 at Dixon Park.

Zach Barr had edged the visitors in front on 13 minutes but Healy levelled ten minutes after that.

He then fired the Comrades into the lead just after the hour on the rebound after Michael Morgan’s initial effort had been saved.

Aidan Steele pulled Ards back into it midway through the second half but Healy struck the winner with six minutes to go.

Institute came from behind to collect their first win of the season at Ballinamallard United’s expense at Ferney Park.

The Mallards held the lead at the break courtesy of Nathan Sherry’s glancing header but goals late in the game from Padraig Lynch and Shane Boyle with a back post header saw ‘Stute snatch victory.

By contrast, an early goal at the BMG Arena was enough for Annagh United to get the better of Newry City.

What proved to be the winner arrived after just 12 minutes when Kris Calvert headed past keeper Conor Mitchell at the back post.

Meanwhile, Newington and Limavady United battled to a scoreless draw at Inver Park while, on Friday night, Matthew Ferguson (with two) and Ben Arthurs registered as Bangor defeated Dundela.
