Ballymena United stunned reigning champions Larne with victory at Inver Park in the Sports Direct Premiership.

It was a quiet first half in the derby clash, which burst to life early in the second half when Andy Ryan struck the crossbar for the home side on 50 minutes.

Ballymena carved out the first effort on target just before the hour mark as Ben Kennedy but struck low effort from outside the box to force a save from Rohan Ferguson.

With five minutes remaining Ballymena's in form talisman Kennedy headed home from a corner for the winner, which leaves the champions still looking for their first league win of the campaign.

There was another shock result at Stangmore Park, as Dungannon Swifts claimed a narrow victory over title-chasing Glentoran.

It was John McGovern who struck the only goal of the game on 41 minutes, as he latched onto a through ball and his lung busting run through the middle of the Glentoran defence resulted in a fine finish under Daniel Gyollai.

Glentoran continued to push for an equaliser in the second half, but it was the Swifts that almost doubled their lead with seven minutes remaining as Kealan Dillon's strike forced a fine save from the goalkeeper.

The victory moves Dungannon Swifts level on points with Glentoran in fourth place, with Rodney McAree's side now only three points behind the league leaders.

There was late drama at Mourneview Park, as Loughgall thought they had claimed all three points only to be pegged back.

After an even first-half, where there was no goals - the game burst to life in the second half.

The visitors took the lead on 67 minutes when Jay Boyd found space in a goalmouth scramble to stab home the opening goal of the game.

Glenavon equalised with a quarter of an hour to go, as Barney McKeown's looping header from a long through found it's way past Nathan Gartside in the Villagers' goal.

Then came the late drama as Loughgall thought they had won it through substitute Jordan Gibson with six minutes remaining, but James Doona restored parity two minutes later for the Lurgan Blues as the points where shared.

A tight encounter at Taylors Avenue ended up falling in Portadown's favour as Carrick Rangers fell to their fourth straight Premiership defeat.

Eamon Fyfe scored the only goal of the game for the Ports, as he latched onto a long ball and brushed off the challenge of Kurtis Forsythe to slot under Glendinning on 69 minutes.

Linfield remain on top of the Sports Direct Premiership despite not featuring today, as their scheduled fixture with Crusaders was postponed due to International call-ups, alongside Cliftonville's match against Coleraine.
