Linfield made their exit from the UEFA Conference League after conceding a late goal at Windsor Park to Icelandic opponents Stjarnan.

Trailing by two goals from the first leg, Linfield knew they needed to get off to a good start and duly did so when, after just seven minutes, Stjarnan skipper Gudmundur Kristjansson turned a Joel Cooper cross into his own net.

That was how it stayed until around the hour mark when the visitors levelled on the night and restored their two-goal aggregate advantage after Emil Atlason got his head to Robert Thorkelsson's corner to nod home from close range.

But two goals in five minutes midway through the second half saw Linfield come back to level on aggregate.

Matthew Orr marked his debut for the Blues on 70 minutes with a glancing header from Kirk Millar's cross before, with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining, Matthew Fitzpatrick struck with an angled finish from inside the area.

However, with the game heading towards extra-time, Hilmar Haldorsson won the tie for Stjarnan after he rushed in to meet Hakur Brink's ball across the face of goal and direct it past Chris Johns.
