Warrenpoint Town, Knockbreda and Dergview ended 2024 on a high with victories in the Playr-Fit Premier Intermediate League on the last Saturday of the year.

'Point closed the gap at the top to just a point with victory over Rathfriland Rangers at Milltown.

Town moved in front just before the half-hour mark after Jim O'Hanlon slotted the ball into the path of Diarmuid O'Hanlon who promptly buried it into the back of the net.

And they doubled their lead five minutes from the break after Michael Leddy was upended in the box by the visiting keeper with Jim O'Hanlon stepping up to calmly convert the subsequent spot-kick.

Rangers pulled one back on the stroke of half-time through Josh Cooper after working his way into the area before lifting it over the advancing keeper.

But 'Point restored their two-goal advantage on 57 minutes after Rory Powell fired into the top corner after a Leddy cross dropped perfectly for him.

Cooper bagged his second for the visitors a minute from time but 'Point held on to secure the win.

Dergview moved into third spot in the table with a 3-1 defeat of Queen's University at Darragh Park.

The home side hit two goals late in the first half to go in at the break on top.

Sam Sproule opened the scoring after he ran onto a through ball to take it past the keeper and a defender before slotting home.

Ethan Nethery then doubled up a couple of minutes after that with a near post header from point blank range after Sproule had nodded the ball on from the edge of the box.

Paul Smith then added a third early in the second half after knocking the ball home from just inside the area after Niall Fielding had laid off a Sproule pass.

Ronan Young pulled one back for the Students but it proved to be little more than a consolation.

Two second half goals saw Knockbreda travel to face Portstewart at Mullaghacall and return with all three points.

Scoreless at the break, Ethan Irwin edged 'Breda in front on 66 minutes with a scrappy finish from inside the box.

Then, with six minutes remaining, the 22-year-old doubled his tally when he took the ball around keeper Reece Oliver and into the empty net.
