Home comfort was all the rage as a cracking night of Playr-Fit Championship saw year ending victories for Limavady United, Annagh United, HW Welders and Newington.
Annagh United, perennial challengers at the top end of the table, produced the result of the evening after coming from behind to defeat leaders Bangor at the BMG Arena.
Matthew Ferguson fired the Seasiders in front during the opening exchanges with a simple finish into an unguarded net from Ben Arthurs’ lay-off.
Arthurs then doubled the lead midway through the first half with a header from Tiarnan Mulvenna’s corner but, just a few minutes later, Ryan Swan pulled one back from the right after latching onto a long ball forward.
Ferguson restored Bangor’s two-goal lead with just over a quarter-of-an-hour remaining with a shot in off the post but again Annagh hit back within minutes when Stephen Murray found the bottom right from 25 yards.
Then, just moments after that, Swan hit his second of the night to equalise when got onto a long ball to finish in the same corner.
And Murray hit the winner with his second of the evening four minutes from time after receiving the ball from Swan to find the net from the edge of the area.
Second placed Limavady United closed the gap at the top to just six points with victory over Ballinamallard United at the Showgrounds.
Ian Parkhill edged the Roesiders in front inside the opening ten minutes after a corner caused problems for the visitors, but the Mallards levelled soon after when home keeper Martin Gallagher appeared to turn the ball into his own net following good work from Jamie Dunne.
That was how it stayed until midway through the second half when Joe McCready knocked home the winner for Limavady.
Ewan McCoubrey and Tiarnan O’Connor were on target for HW Welders as they swept past managerless Ballyclare Comrades at the Blanchflower Stadium.
McCoubrey opened the scoring after half-an-hour after getting behind the defence to send a strong finish past Gerard Walker.
O’Connor doubled up just before the hour after cutting in from the left to combine with Josh Kee to fire beyond the keeper, and doubled his tally 20 minutes after that with a nutmeg through Walker’s legs on the counter attack.
Brian Healy pulled a consolation back for Ballyclare late in the game after sprinting through to beat Jack Mills.
Newry City shared the spoils with Armagh City at The Showgrounds.
Stefan Lavery opened the scoring for the visitors on 21 minutes with a neat finish from Marc McConnell’s cross.
But Newry levelled a few minutes later after Lorcan Forde fired past Conner Byrne with a superb curling 25-yard free-kick.
Two second half goals helped Newington defeat Institute at Inver Park.
Scoreless at the break, Darren Stuart fired the Swans in front on 66 minutes. Gerard Storey then made sure of the points for Newington with an insurance second goal three minutes into added time.
