It was a three-point Saturday for Cliftonville, Glentoran, Loughgall and Linfield from the second weekend of Sports Direct Premiership action.

Linfield lead the pack at this very early stage after storming to comfortable 3-1 defeat of Dungannon Swifts at Windsor Park.

The Blues effectively killed the game off with a clinical three-goal scoring blitz in eight minutes midway through the first half.

Joel Cooper opened the scoring on 28 minutes with a rifled finish after Ethan McGee had cut the ball back.

Kyle McClean doubled up five minutes later with a volley before, three minutes after that, Chris Shields sent a deflected effort past keeper Declan Dunne while, early in the second half, Adam Glenny grabbed what proved to be little more than a consolation for the visitors.

Cliftonville have also won two from two, defeating Glenavon by the odd goal in three at Mourneview Park.

Joe Gormley fired the Reds in front with just over a quarter-of-an-hour on the clock with a powerful finish beyond the reach of Gareth Deane, but they needed to wait until just before the hour to double their advantage through Shea Gordon.

James Doona reduced the deficit on 70 minutes but it wasn’t enough to spark a revival for the Lurgan Blues.

Niall McGinn bagged a stoppage time winner as Glentoran defeated Portadown at Shamrock Park.

Jordan Jenkins broke the deadlock as early as the ninth minute after cutting in from the right to finish past Aaron McCarey.

That was how it stayed until the Ports levelled on 77 minutes through Ryan Mayse but, just as it looked it would end all square, up popped McGinn in the 93rd minute with a strike into the far corner.

Loughgall swept to a comprehensive three-goal victory over Carrick Rangers at Lakeview Park.

Jordan Gibson glanced home the opening goal midway through the first half before grabbing his second moments from the break from six yards.

He might have hit his hat-trick in the second half, but Loughgall’s third goal was eventually scored by Benji Magee right at the end with a curling finish into the far corner.
