What an afternoon it proved to be in the Playr-Fit Championship as Annagh United, Ards and HW Welders all claimed victories while there were keenly contested draws elsewhere!
The individual performance of the day surely belongs to David Parkhouse who hit four first-half goals as HW Welders swept to victory over Ballinamallard United at the Blanchflower Stadium.
The former Derry City and Ballymena United striker fired the Welders in front after eight minutes after receiving the ball from Ewan McCoubrey, before doubling up not long after that with a near post volley.
He claimed the match ball after half-an-hour and made sure right at the end of the first half after pouncing on the loose ball from a Dylan O’Kane effort.
Ards lead the way on goal difference, and have goals from Zach Barr, Lee Newell and Eamon Scannell to thank for their 3-2 defeat of Newington at Clandeboye Park while Patrick Downey and substitute Conall Curran responded for the Swans.
Annagh United also made it two wins from two with a narrow defeat of Bangor at the BMG Arena.
Kenny Ximenes, a summer arrival from Dungannon Swifts, bagged what proved to be the only goal of the game seven minutes from time with a finish on the break in off the post.
Michael McLellan hit a stoppage time equaliser as Dundela shared the points with Institute at the Brandywell.
‘Stute led at the break following Michael Harris’ near post finish, but McLellan brought the Duns back in it on 71 minutes with a close range header.
Mikhail Kennedy then restored home advantage five minutes from time only for McLellan to nod home the dramatic leveller in the 95th minute.
Newry City came from two goals down to ultimately share the points from Limavady United’s visit to the Showgrounds.
Rodney Brown and Ian Parkhill had handed the Roesiders a comfortable lead midway through the first half, but City were thrown a lifeline through an Adam Salley spot-kick on 32 minutes.
Salley struck again in first half stoppage time before Lewis Tosh restored United’s lead not long after the interval, but that proved to be short-lived after Ryan McNickle made it 3-3 before the hour with a header from the edge of the box.
Meanwhile, at Dixon Park, Alan McMurtry knocked home Ballyclare Comrades’ equaliser early in the second half to cancel out Conor Mullen’s early opener for Armagh City.
