The final round of Playr-Fit Championship games produced the same breathtaking drama that epitomized the entire campaign.

With the title already decided all eyes were focused on the outcome of the battle for the promotion play-off spot and, in the end, Institute won through to face Ballymena United for a place in the top flight next week.

‘Stute bagged a stoppage time winner through Michael Harris to defeat champions Portadown – although that did not spoil the title party at Shamrock Park after the game.

Across town Annagh United and Bangor – the two other play-off hopefuls – went head-to-head at the BMG Arena but neither could find a way through in a scoreless draw which allowed ‘Stute to nip in and secure that all important second spot.

Staying in Section A, the east Belfast derby saw HW Welders come from two goals down to defeat neighbours Dundela at Wilgar Park.

Jordan Jenkins struck twice early in the game to fire the Duns into a commanding lead, but the Welders hit back courtesy of a Matthew Ferguson hat-trick to end the season with the local bragging rights.

Ballyclare Comrades finished top of Section B after making it five post-split wins on the bounce with a comprehensive defeat of Ballinamallard United at Ferney Park.

Racing into a two-goal lead with around a quarter-of-an-hour on the clock through Caolan Donnelly and Brian Healy, the visitors went on to underline their dominance in the second half after Michael Morgan and Darius Roohi also found the net.

Newington also hit four in a seven-goal thriller with Knockbreda at Breda Park.

The Swans moved in front as early as the fourth minute through Ben McCaul but the sides went in at the break on level terms when Marcus Murphy levelled for 'Breda.

However the visitors stormed into a commanding lead early in the second half when Darren Stuart, Patrick Downey and Stuart again all found the net before the hour.

Back came 'Breda through Ashton McDermott midway through the half before Peter McDermott reduced the deficit further from the spot with just over a quarter-of-an-hour remaining ... but the visitors held on to claim the points in the end.

Meanwhile, Corey McLaughlin bagged an 86th minute equaliser as Dergview hit back to earn a draw from Ards’ visit to Darragh Park.

Marc Walsh had fired Ivan Sproule’s side in front midway through the first half but goals either side of the break from Callum Dougan and Ross Hunter tipped the balance back in favour of the visitors before that late goal ensured it ended honours even.
