Cliftonville Ladies and Sion Swifts Ladies wrapped up the Avenir Sports All Island Cup group stages with positive results over the weekend but there were narrow defeats for Linfield Women, Crusaders Strikers and Glentoran Women.

Cliftonville, who had already secured their place in the semi-finals, continued their unbeaten run in the competition with a 1-1 draw with Sligo Rovers Women at Solitude. Danielle Maxwell had opened the scoring for the Reds midway through the first half, but this was cancelled out by Emma Doherty before the break.

Staying in Group C, Sion Swifts Ladies bagged an impressive one goal victory over Bohemians Women in Strabane courtesy of Caoirse Doherty's strike after half-an-hour.

In Group A Linfield went down by the odd goal in three to Athlone Town Women at Midgley Park. Neither side could qualify for the last four so only pride was at stake, with Dana Scheriff handing the visitors the early advantage with less than a quarter-of-an-hour on the clock.

Mia Moore pulled one back for the Blues a few minutes from the break, but Roisin Molly restored Athlone's lead with what what proved to be the winner early in the second half.

Crusaders needed to beat Cork City Women by three clear goals at Seaview to stand any chance of qualifying out of Group D but, unfortunately for the Strikers, they went down to a single Fiana Bradley finish just before the break to end their interest in the competition.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Glentoran welcomed Shamrock Rovers Women to the Blanchflower Stadium knowing a win would see them progress out of Group B.

However, the visitors from Dublin got off to a great start with goals from Shannon Coady and Melissa O'Kane giving them a comfortable half-time advantage.

The Glens did pull one back early in the second half through Kerry Beattie but Coady bagged her second of the afternoon with 20 minutes remaining to restore Rovers' two-goal advantage.

Demi Vance reduced the deficit again with an 87th minute spot-kick but it was too late for the Glens to salvage anything else from the game.
