The race for promotion from the Playr-Fit Premier Intermediate League shows to signs of slowing down as Ballymacash Rangers still lead the way by two points after another big win on Saturday.

However the Lisburn side had the inspired substitutions of manager Forsythe to thank as Ballymacash came from a goal down to win 2-1 against Rathfriland at the Bluebell. It was the game-changing introductions of Carl McComb and Josh Cahoon who scored two goals in two minutes to cancel out Jack Chambers’ 13th minute opener for Rathfriland.

Second place Warrenpoint Town had a more comfortable afternoon at home to Dollingstown, as they kept the gap to two points – but Barry Gray’s team still have two games in hand on the table-toppers. Goals either side of the break from Joe Gorman (27 minutes) and Jim O’Hanlon (83 minutes) sealed the win over Dollingstown – to condemn the Planter’s Park outfit to their fourth consecutive league defeat.

Queen’s University failed to finish the week at the top of the table, dropping down to third after drawing 3-3 with Limavady United at the Dub. Stewart Nixon took just 60 seconds to open the scoring in South Belfast for the Students, but a relentless opening twenty minutes seen the scores level at 2-2, with Alex Pomeroy grabbing two for the visitors and Nixon also grabbing his second. Tiarnan Boorman’s goal for the Roesiders just before half-time looked to be the winner, only for Mikey Withers to pop up with the equaliser three minutes from time for Queens.

Armagh City will also be ruing a late goal in their promotion bid, as having led for much of the game at Holm Park against Moyola Park through an early Stefan Lavery strike – it was Moyola’s Jake McNeill who had the final say as he popped up with a last minute goal to secure a point for Kenny Shiels’ men. It wasn’t enough to prevent Moyola Park dropping to the bottom of the Premier Intermediate League table though.

That came as a result of Tobermore United’s hard-fought 2-1 win over Banbridge Town at Fortwilliam Park, goals from Declan Martin and Daniel McIlhatton either side of the interval will give a major confidence boost to Tobermore in only their second league win of the campaign. Michael McCavitt bagged Banbridge Town’s goal in the first half.

At the North Coast, Portstewart were only a few minutes from picking up a vital victory against Lisburn Distillery, but Ryan McNickle’s equaliser six minutes from time ensured that the points were shared between the two sides, after Michael Smith had given the Seahawks the lead with 70 minutes on the clock.

Finally, Coagh United picked up their second win of the season against PSNI to move them up into eleventh place – Aaron Campbell and Tiarnan Rafferty scoring the goals in a 2-0 win at Hagan Park.
