The new Playr-Fit Championship campaign got off to a high scoring, entertaining start with the opening six games producing no fewer than 29 goals.
Annagh United proved to be the most prolific, hitting five past Dundela at the BMG Arena despite falling behind early on.
Jaimie McGovern had opened the scoring for the Duns after just six minutes but a quick fire brace from summer signing Ryan Swan edged Ciaran McGurgan’s side in front halfway through the first half.
That was how it stayed until a strike apiece from Stephen Murray and Jack Evans extended Annagh’s lead, to be followed by a Lee Upton finish later in the second half. William Faulkner bagged a stoppage consolation for the visitors.
HW Welders stormed back from two goals down to defeat Ballinamallard United 4-2 at the Blanchflower Stadium.
An Aaron Harkin spot-kick handed the Mallards the lead at the break, with James McGrath doubling up early in the second half.
The Welders fight back got underway on the hour when Michael Ferguson came off the bench to head home an Oisin Barr delivery.
Joshua Kee levelled with just over ten minutes to go before Ferguson doubled his tally soon after. Michael McLellan then made sure in the closing moments.
Newington got their season off to a brilliant start with a 3-1 win away to Ards.
Zach Barr opened the scoring after just seven minutes after giving Neil Shields no chance but Jamal Dupree levelled for Matthew Tipton’s side midway through the first half.
Patrick Downey restored the Swans’ lead around the half-hour mark, with Darren Stuart making sure early in the second period.
Portadown began life back in the Championship by getting the better of Dergview by the odd goal in five at Darragh Park.
Garth Falconer had edged Dergview in front on 33 minutes only for Caolin Coyle to level deep into first half stoppage time. Eamon Fyfe nudged the Ports into the lead on 54 minutes with Paul McElroy hitting number three with less than 20 minutes to go.
Thomas Mullen struck late on to set up a nervy finish but Niall Currie’s side held on to claim the point.
Newly promoted Bangor were undone by a late goal away to Ballyclare Comrades.
Conall McGrandles turned the ball into his own net early on to get the Seasiders off to a great start but Michael Morgan levelled for the Comrades after half-an-hour somewhat against the run of play.
Both sides found the net again just before the break. Scott McArthur restored Bangor’s lead on 40 minutes only for Darius Roohi to equalise moments later.
And Roohi had the last laugh when, with three minutes to go, he headed home what proved to be Ballyclare’s winner.
Meanwhile, at the Brandywell, two Mark Mbuli strikes saw Institute defeat Knockbreda.
Scoreless at the break, he nodded home Tiarnan McKinney’s 52nd minute cross before doubling his tally with just over ten minutes left on the clock.
